April 5, 2008 About my children - Teach Your Children Project
I may be critical about the Unification Movement, but I think the teaching behind is real good stuff. I think if the potential that’s in there is put to work, it can compete hands down with any other world view out there. I know quite a few of those (world views out there.)
So I told my children, if they ever tell me they don’t believe what I believe, then I want to know what that is. What do they think I believe.
Children don’t normally want to know what their parents believe. And often the parents don’t know what to believe. Whatever.
When I told my son (14) that he should know what I believe before he tells me he doesn’t, he assured me that it’s not problem. He believes what I believe.
I asked him what I believe and he didn’t know. You get the point: He doesn’t really care. I mentioned that before.
He understood that’s a problem, but it’s actually more my problem. So I decided to attempt a weekly chat on DP related topics. It’s a challenge, but a man’s can’t always be the object of his fears and one’s got to have goals.
The teachings behind the Unification Movement is called Divine Principle. That’s the title of the main book. You find a more formal introduction to it in the section Teaching on this site.
Considering the dynamic of young people that approach doesn’t stand a chance. So I will attempt to congregate the family around the kitchen table and have an informal, yet systematic chat. Feeling my way through the shallow waters and sharp reefs of youthful criticism or outright disbelief. Until I get everything across that I find significant.
Then my children can make up their own mind.
They’ll make it up anyway.
